Our open mic acts have gone on to perform at the highest levels to include Vicar St, O2, Conan O’ Brien, The Comedy Channel, BBC, RTE, Channel 4, The Electric Picnic, The Montreal Festival, Edinburgh, New York, Sydney, London and even The Grand ole Opery
The Battle of the Axe roots itself in The Hoop Bar, Notting Hill Gate, London where Producer/Director and Founder Tony Ferns organised open mic shows for musicians in the early 1980s for 10 years.
Tony established the Battle of the Axe a few years after his return to Ireland in 1996 primarily for actors trying out monologues.
However soon Comedians and Singer/songwriters fell in love with the open mic theme of the Lucky Duck Award and Certificate with audience voting for the No 1 act on the night. And that was it – The Battle of the Axe was fully born.
